11 Reasons Why Your Relationship May be Heading For The Rocks
Culled from talkofnaija, I believe this topic is for everyone that is currently in a relationship because it comes with alot of responsibility...
This goes to all the ladies and guys out there. Have you ever taken time to think of the reasons why you were dumped?
Why doesn't your partner like you? Why him/her dim their love for you? Why your partner changed all over a sudden? Why guys/ladies don’t fall for you? Why you are remaining single year to year?
1. You Lie Too Much - Your partner isn't as dumb as you might be thinking. They have haunches and intuition too. They can tell when they're being lied too. Don't try to hide who you are because you think your partner won't like the real you. You can't fool somebody forever and once the truth comes out he/she will never trust you again. So be yourself at all times in a relationship.
2. You Don't Appreciate The Little Things Done For You - Some people are horrible with expressing their feelings, but they try to in their own little ways. Sometimes it's something small like picking up a cupcake because they know you'll like it. Lots of times an act like this goes unnoticed or cleaning up the room after have messed things up, If your partner is trying to show you he/she cares and you don't see it will look like you don't care or you don’t love back. Please learn to appreciate little efforts.
3. You Text & Make Calls Too Much - Your partner will always want to feel important when they are with you so dont spoil that moment. If you're on your phone the whole time texting, chatting, browsing or even calling during dinner or nights out, they'll feel like you don't care about them. The solution is to turn your phone off so you can give them all your attention. You dont need to think about it, just stop it.
4. You're a Party Animal - I am sure almost everyone loves to have fun, but they also like to chill out. If you're going out to bars and clubbing like thrice a week, soon your partner will get tired of it. First of all it’s not developmental at all and it’s wastage of time if overdone. So your partner might hate and dump you for that. If you want to be in a committed relationship you have to drastically reduce the crazy nights out.
5. Showing That You Know Everything - Humans are smart in general in our own different ways; we all know this, but some people think they know everything just because they earn more than their partners or have a better certificate than their partners. Nobody likes a know-it-all. Do not shove your "selling point" in their face... lol. It will definitely create inferiority complex and depression consciously or unconsciously to the other person. Even if you know you're right about something let it slide sometimes. It's okay to let someone else have the glory.
6. Do Not Be Afraid To Eat/Fart - Here's a fact about this world: We all like to eat food. If you don't eat while your partner is, you'll make them feel awkward. You don't need to eat a cheeseburger and fries every day, but do more than have a side salad for dinner. Also, do not be afraid or shy to fart in front of one another in only goes to show how comfortable you are with your partner unless stated otherwise... this is my own theory
7. You Are a Mama's Baby - If whenever life gets rough you run to your parents for help, it might be a turnoff to your partner. It's good to have a support system, but if you're calling your mom for every little problem you encounter in your relationship, it might show you won't be able to handle the bigger problems alone when they come. So define your relationship if your partner wants privacy, please respect it. Am not saying you should keep quiet if your partner abuses you or beats you. You should know when to draw the line
8. You Don't Work But You Want To Spend Like a Billionaire - The ladies are more guilty here;If you want to shop all day long, you better have your own money to do it. Guys don't like having to sweat all day. Many ladies sometimes like competing, they like buying things that they won’t use simply because they don’t suit their standards. They like to poses it and full up their wardrobe simply because she saw her closest female friend with it. Guys dislike this; they will dump you because of being a big spender.
9. You Need To Change Your Partner - Guys and ladies like who they are. They are how they are for a reason, basically for a living. If your partner is a horrible dresser you can buy them new clothes you would rather see them wear, but don't force anything on them. Just love your partner the way he/she is. If you aren't happy with who they are, find somebody else that makes you happy.
10. Do not be Over Dramatic- There's nothing worse than blowing things out of proportion for no reason when the issue can be easily overlooked or forgotten like if you missed your favourite game because she was watching her favourite movie or your favourite salad out of stock when you went grocery shopping. Even if it means a lot to you try to let it go.
11. Being So Friendly To Your Partners Friends - When you try to step in between a guy and his buddies or a lady and her friends all you're doing is creating a barrier between the two of you. A guy may dump you because of your being so close to his friends. this also is applicable to ladies. They will feel insecure; jealousy may set in and trust issues starts arising hence leading to dumping you and even hating their friends for life. Don’t be into each others' friends so much; don’t communicate with them behind your partner's back unless they is okay with it.

DIY: 6 Ways To Know That Your Relationship is A Farce
Love and relationship issues are one of the most sensitive issues known to people. Therefore they should be handled really carefully. No one is exactly a stranger to love and relationship experiences. So we tend to be alert when we hear advice, talks, clues, etc regarding it. I came across this topic culled from Y! Online and it made me think and realise that no matter how 'in charge' we think we are of our love lives, there are still a lot of things we still could learn. It wouldn't hurt to engage in a little soul searching and ask ourselves questions like, " Am I making a mistake?", " Do I really understand this person?" etc before condemning yourself to eternal pangs.
So let's take a look at some signs you might be missing. I really hope this enlightens us more.
1. No reference to the future: Discussing the future needn’t freak partners out. It indicates a mutual interest in wanting to take things forward, and doing things together, assuming you haven’t known each other for just a month. The attraction may be strong; there might even be respect and affection involved, but to see someone in the guise of a life partner takes something more. “Being attracted and wanting to develop a committed relationship are two different things. It’s possible that one of the partners may have no desire to focus on ‘one person’, says New Yorkbased relationship expert Susan Winter. It’s about the bigger picture, explains Mumbai based couple counsellor Shrreya Podaar, who holds a Masters in marriage and family therapy. “It lets you know if your partner sees you in their bigger picture of life, leaving you with a sense of belonging and assurance.” In the absence of ‘planning’, Winter says, “it’s not about you… it’s about him/her. And this is not a reflection of your worth. It’s reflective of someone who’s still sampling the buffet table of life, and hasn’t made up his/her mind.” Psychiatrist Dr Dayal Mirchandani, who has a private practice in Andheri, raises a valid red flag. “Making future plans depends on the age of the couple. At 21, it’s difficult to expect someone to make up their mind. In your thirties, it’s a valid concern,” he says.
2. Only sex or no sex: Sex and passion’s role in a successful relationship can hardly be denied. But it’s about finding the balance. You don’t just want to be “booty call” for your partner, winter warns. In the utter absence of intimacy (although you may argue that the equation is high on affection, protectiveness and respect) on the other hand, you are no better off than mere friends. “For a healthy, longterm relationship, the mind must feel as stimulated as the body,” says clinical psychologist Saloni Sawnani.
3. You both act bohemian: If one or both of you act like you are single when in public, it’s a sign. If you are not ‘allowed’ to let the world know you are dating, it’s a decision that must be questioned. “If someone is reluctant to show his/ her affection in public, it’s not a bad idea to reassess your feelings and ask why are you with him/her,” advises Winter. This should not be confused with giving the partner space and having an independent social life off and on. It’s a problem if it’s the norm rather than the exception. Then, where is the ‘us’ in the relationship? Dr Mirchandani says, usually, for the first six months after hooking up, couples are at their best behaviour. “Once you’ve given it time, interacting with your partner’s friends and family helps you get to know your lover better.”
4. You don’t make the time: Not having enough time is an excuse. No professional priority can be big enough to repeatedly spring up as a hurdle in spending time together. “It’s tough to take stock, review a relationship honestly,” says Sawnani. Work pressure, then becomes the perfect foil. “Often, couples who don’t want to confront their feelings or find out what’s amiss, hide behind excuses,” she says. Winter suggests you ask why you are willing to repeatedly make time for someone who’s not making time for you. “When a man chooses to be in a partnership with a woman, he is aware of her value, and will make the effort. And so must women.
5. You are strangers to the family: This may happen only in due course, but in serious relationships (unless there is an intercaste Bollywoodesque angle involved), your partner would eventually like you to meet his siblings and parents. “Loving relationships tend to be inclusive,” observes Winter. If you notice that your lover has no intention or inclination to introduce you to his family, or isn’t curious about getting to know the people who matter to you, there might be a problem. “In India, romantic relationships tend to seek social sanction,” says Sawnani. “When your partner doesn’t introduce you to the family after you’ve been together for long, s/he may have commitment issues.”
6. You haven’t travelled together: Travelling is not just about spending alone time, it also points to shared interests, and having the will to plan ahead. It indicates that you are comfortable being together for long periods, giving you a fairly accurate indication of how you stand on intimacy and compatibility. “It tells if you can talk to each other for hours, and be comfortable with silences between each other,” says Sawnani.

5 Helpful Tips on Self- Defence
Its almost two months that I updated this page. A girl's got so many things on her mind but I know that's not enough reason to act the way I did and I apologise sincerely about it. I will be updating here at least once a week in case I get "reeeeaally" busy...
Now I found some interesting safety tips for us, especially fragile powerless women like me must know, unless you are fighter or boxer which I am most certain a whole lot of us are not... Lol
1) What should a woman do if she finds herself alone in the company of a strange male as she prepares to enter a lift in a high-rise apartment late at night?
Enter the lift. If you need to reach the 13th floor, press all the buttons up to your destination. No one will dare attack you in a lift that stops on every floor.
2) What to do if a stranger tries to attack you when you are alone in your house, run into the kitchen.
You alone know where the chili powder (pepper) and turmeric are kept. Also where the knives and plates are. All these can be turned into deadly weapons. If nothing else, start throwing plates and utensils all over. Let them break. Scream. Remember that noise is the greatest enemy of a molester. He does not want to be caught.
3} Taking an Automobile or Taxi at Night.
Before getting into an automobile at night, note down its registration number. Then use the mobile to call your family or friend and pass on the details to them in the language the driver understands. Even if no one answers your call, pretend you are in a conversation. The driver now knows someone has his details and he will be in serious trouble if anything goes wrong. He is now bound to take you home safe and sound. A potential attacker is now your de facto protector!
4}What if the driver turns into a street he is not supposed to - and you feel you are entering a danger zone?
Use the handle of your purse or your stole to wrap around his neck and pull him back. Within seconds, he will feel choked and helpless. In case you don’t have a purse or stole just pull him back by his collar. The top button of his shirt would then do the same trick.
5} If you are stalked at night.
Enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament. If it is night and shops are not open, go inside an ATM box. ATM centres always have security guards. They are also monitored by close circuit television. Fearing identification,no one will dare attack you. After all, being mentally alert is the greatest weapon you can ever have.
Now no one will be able to mess with you because you have got the power *winks*

IT'S OFFICIAL, TOKYO WILL HOST 2020 SUMMER OLYMPICS
Around 100 members of the International Olympic Committee took part in the vote to select a city today in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with candidate cities Istanbul and Tokyo making it through to the final round of voting. The Japanese city won the vote 60-36.
Tokyo had been the favourite to win, and won the first round of voting, despite recent controversy surrounding a recent radioactive leak at the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant. Bid leader and IOC member Tsunekazu Takeda had told those voting that the city would be a "safe pair of hands and more," with a budget of $4.9 billion — far lower than Istanbul's $19.8 billion budget.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, shows the name of the city of Tokyo elected to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
In total, three cities went to the Argentinian capital earlier today to make short presentations explaining why they should be host. Madrid went out in the first round of voting, and another round was held as no candidate had secured the required majority. The Spanish capital had touted the fact that 80% of its venues were already ready and only $1.9 billion was needed for construction, but concerns about the Spanish economy may well have hampered its bid.
Istanbul was considered a wild card choice by many, not just because of its large budget but also because of violent anti-government protests in the city earlier this year and a doping scandal among Turkish athletes.
It will be the third time Tokyo has hosted the games, having previously hosted in 1940 and 1964. Neither Istanbul nor Madrid have hosted before.
The 2012 Summer Games were held in London, U.K., while the 2016 Summer Games are due to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

History Of World Record Transfer Fees In Soccer.

It's official the worst best kept secret in the football world is out. Gareth Bale with his move from Spurs To Real Madrid is now the most expensive footballer in the world at £85M. he will earn a reported £300,000 per week.(mind boggling innit?)
Here's a brief history of the world record transfer fees...
From Alf Common, the first £1,000 player, to Johan Cruyff's £922,000 deal to sign for Barcelona, to Bale's £85.3m move to Spain, huge figures have been spent by clubs looking to land the world's best players.
Common's move from Sunderland to Middlesbrough in February 1905 was the first time a player had ever been transferred for a £1,000 fee. The forward went on to help Middlesbrough stave off relegation to Division Two that season.
Liverpool's Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has been a big talking point of this summer's transfer window but it was his Spanish namesake who was making headlines in 1961. The midfielder moved from Barcelona to Inter Milan for a fee of £152,000 and helped the Italian side to three league titles and two European Cups.
Barcelona were involved in a record-breaking fee again in 1973, but this time they were the ones doing the spending. The Spanish giants spent £922,000 to bring in Cruyff from Ajax and the Dutch forward spent five years at the Nou Camp - winning one La Liga title and the Copa del Rey.
Two years after Cruyff's move to Barcelona, the record was broken again as football saw its first £1m player when Italian Giuseppe Savoldi moved from Bologna to Napoli for £1.2m.
Only one player has broken the transfer record twice and that honour belongs to Maradona, who in 1982 moved from Boca Juniors to Barcelona for £3m. The Argentina legend's time at the Nou Camp was short-lived, however, as two years later Napoli paid £5m to bring him to Italy.
An Italian team was behind another record in 1992 when Jean-Pierre Papin moved from Marseille to AC Milan. The France striker helped the Serie A side to two league titles before leaving for Bayern Munich in 1994.
Alan Shearer's move from Blackburn Rovers to Newcastle United in 1996 caused a stir with the much-coveted striker choosing to return to his hometown club in a £15m deal instead of joining Manchester United. No English club has broken a world transfer record since.
Portuguese star Luis Figo stunned football when he left Barcelona to join Real Madrid in 2000. Real had to pay their bitter rivals £37m to land Figo, who helped them to two La Liga titles and the European Cup in 2002 - the last time the Spanish giants won the competition. The move was also the first of five world transfer records broken by Real.
They would beat their own record a year later by signing France midfielder Zinedine Zidane for £45.6m from Juventus. The World Cup winner ended his career in Spain after adding a La Liga title and European Cup to his honours list.
The summer of 2009 saw Real shock world football not once, but twice. Not happy with landing Kaka from AC Milan for £56m, the Spaniards also brought in Cristiano Ronaldo for £80m from Manchester United. Ronaldo has gone on to be regarded as second only to Lionel Messi as the world's best player.

SHOCKER!!! SCIENTISTS GROW BRAIN - LIKE TISSUE IN PETRI DISH
Petri dishes have hosted all sorts of experiments, such as cultivating mold or breeding amoeba. But now, truly futuristic events are happening in these circular glass plates -- most notably, growing brains.
That's right, scientists are now raising brains in petri dishes.
According to a study in the science journal Nature, biologists at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna have grown a human brain using stem cells. This brain isn't full-grown; instead, it is small 3D sections of tissue that apparently resemble the brain of a 9-week-old fetus. It is about 3 to 4 millimeters in size.
Despite not being fully developed, this brain model still has distinct regions of the brain, like the dorsal cortex, ventral forebrain, and an immature retina.
"The parts are correctly organized, but not put together," said study coordinator Juergen Knoblich, according to Popular Science. Knoblich describes it as "a car where you have an engine, you have the wheels -- but the engine is on the roof... that car would never drive, but you could still take that car and analyze how an engine works."
The goal of these scientists is to be able to use lab-grown brains to study illnesses, like schizophrenia and autism. Apparently, animal brains are too dissimilar from human brains for conclusive studies on many types of neurological diseases.
Scientists have created other body parts, like livers and heart tissue, but these organs are nowhere near as intricate as a brain. According to Popular Science, the 3D brain model created by the Viennese researchers is the most complex in vitro creation of tissue to date.Read more

SOME LAWS TOURISTS SHOULD NOTE WHEN TRAVELING ABROAD
Here are some ways tourists can fall foul of police abroad (crimes punishable with a fine unless otherwise stated):
1. Chewing gum: Strictly prohibited on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Singapore.
2. Feeding pigeons: Against the law in Venice.
3. Wearing swimming trunks: As well as wearing a bikini or going bare-chested, in Barcelona this is illegal if you're not in the beach front area.
4. Using nasal spray: Some common products are illegal in Japan.
5. Taking photographs: In Saudi Arabia, taking a snap of a palace, government building or "military installation" can land you in jail.
6. Wearing camouflage: In Barbados it is an offence for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing.
7. Sunbathing topless: Prohibited in Fiji.
8. Carrying mineral water : It is illegal to take mineral water into Nigeria. Others include mosquito net, jewellry and fruits
9. Snacking while sightseeing: In Florence, it is an offence to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity of churches and public buildings.
10. Praying: In the Maldives, public observance of religions other than Islam is prohibited for visitors. Punishable by arrest and detention.
11. Kinder Surprise Eggs: U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized about 25,000 Kinder eggs in 1,700 separate incidents in 2010, and the agency reissued a longstanding warning against the import of the chocolate treat this year right before Easter.
You won't be laughing so hard if the authorities catch you. Kinder Surprise eggs are banned because they have “a non-nutritive object imbedded” in them, and thus pose a potential safety hazard to children below the age of three.
12. Marmite and Vegemite: The preferred yeast-extract spreads of Britons and Aussies were banned in Denmark on the basis that Marmite and Vegemite are products that contain “enhanced vitamins.”
13. Cordless telephones: Alongside the usual restrictions on bringing live animals and produce into the country, Indonesian authorities have also prohibited travelers from bringing in cordless phones without an approved license
14. Electric pans, toasters and irons: Count household appliances among the don’ts for your packing list when you head into Cuba.
