SHOCKER!!! SCIENTISTS GROW BRAIN - LIKE TISSUE IN PETRI DISH

Petri dishes have hosted all sorts of experiments, such as cultivating mold or breeding amoeba. But now, truly futuristic events are happening in these circular glass plates -- most notably, growing brains.

That's right, scientists are now raising brains in petri dishes.

According to a study in the science journal Nature, biologists at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology in Vienna have grown a human brain using stem cells. This brain isn't full-grown; instead, it is small 3D sections of tissue that apparently resemble the brain of a 9-week-old fetus. It is about 3 to 4 millimeters in size.

Despite not being fully developed, this brain model still has distinct regions of the brain, like the dorsal cortex, ventral forebrain, and an immature retina.

"The parts are correctly organized, but not put together," said study coordinator Juergen Knoblich, according to Popular Science. Knoblich describes it as "a car where you have an engine, you have the wheels -- but the engine is on the roof... that car would never drive, but you could still take that car and analyze how an engine works."

The goal of these scientists is to be able to use lab-grown brains to study illnesses, like schizophrenia and autism. Apparently, animal brains are too dissimilar from human brains for conclusive studies on many types of neurological diseases.

Scientists have created other body parts, like livers and heart tissue, but these organs are nowhere near as intricate as a brain. According to Popular Science, the 3D brain model created by the Viennese researchers is the most complex in vitro creation of tissue to date.Read more

JOSH AND FERGIE DUHAMEL WELCOMES BABY BOY "AXL JACK"

Actor Josh Duhamel, 40, and Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie, 38, welcomed their first child on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Son Axl Jack Duhamel, who was delivered from his mother through a ceaserian Section, weighed in at 7 lbs., 10 oz.

After announcing the pregnancy on Twitter, the reality of a baby on the way set in when Duhamel witnessed his wife’s first ultrasound.

Though their son's name "Axl" sounds wierd and uncommon it is believed that the name is of a Scandinavian origin and quite common in that region. Josh , hbay's ather is from minot North Dakota which has a huge scandinavian presence.

Danielle and Kevin announced on Aug. 29 the gender of their first child — it’s a girl!! Fans are thrilled with the news and so happy they’ve decided to include them in the exciting process!
Kevin Jonas and Danielle Jonas have another thing to celebrate, the gender of their baby! The happy couple used the new Jonas Brothers iTunes app on Aug. 29, to let fans in on their exciting news — it’s a girl!

According to Hollywoodlife.com the Married To Jonas stars made the big announcement using the free smartphone app and it was so much fun! The couple’s expecting a baby girl! They teased the news earlier in the day with this tweet, that led to a pic of them on Instagram of them with the words “Pink or Blue” above them:

The proud soon-to-be parents just announced that they were having a baby in July, so this summer has been full of great news for them. Congrats!!!

SOME LAWS TOURISTS SHOULD NOTE WHEN TRAVELING ABROAD

Here are some ways tourists can fall foul of police abroad (crimes punishable with a fine unless otherwise stated):

1. Chewing gum: Strictly prohibited on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Singapore.

2. Feeding pigeons: Against the law in Venice.

3. Wearing swimming trunks: As well as wearing a bikini or going bare-chested, in Barcelona this is illegal if you're not in the beach front area.

4. Using nasal spray: Some common products are illegal in Japan.

5. Taking photographs: In Saudi Arabia, taking a snap of a palace, government building or "military installation" can land you in jail.

6. Wearing camouflage: In Barbados it is an offence for anyone, including children, to dress in camouflage clothing.

7. Sunbathing topless: Prohibited in Fiji.

8. Carrying mineral water : It is illegal to take mineral water into Nigeria. Others include mosquito net, jewellry and fruits

9. Snacking while sightseeing: In Florence, it is an offence to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity of churches and public buildings.

10. Praying: In the Maldives, public observance of religions other than Islam is prohibited for visitors. Punishable by arrest and detention.

11. Kinder Surprise Eggs: U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized about 25,000 Kinder eggs in 1,700 separate incidents in 2010, and the agency reissued a longstanding warning against the import of the chocolate treat this year right before Easter.
You won't be laughing so hard if the authorities catch you. Kinder Surprise eggs are banned because they have “a non-nutritive object imbedded” in them, and thus pose a potential safety hazard to children below the age of three.

12. Marmite and Vegemite: The preferred yeast-extract spreads of Britons and Aussies were banned in Denmark on the basis that Marmite and Vegemite are products that contain “enhanced vitamins.”

The government of France is really serious about it's crackdown on cults. There French government agency by the title MIVILUDES (Mission interministérielle de vigilance et de lutte contre les dérives sectaires, I.e. Beautiful Dillish Matthews of Namibia wins the 8th season of Big Brother Africa The Chase leaving Cleo of Zambia and Elikem of Ghana as the 1st and 2nd runner up respectively with Melvin and Berverly of Nigeria in the 4th and 5th positions too.

Though it was sad for Nigerians and most Africans who believed Melvin would emerge as winner, as we were all shocked to the bones... people were literally crying , no fireworks or champagne. No one really saw this coming.

This young boy (who currently has not been identified) entered an Arik air plane travelling from Benin to Lagos. It was believed that he was able to acheive this feat by sneaking into the aircraft through the mail wheeland thereafter hiding in the wheel compartment till the aircraft got to its destination in Lagos.

She is really cute right? Well North's parents (Kim and Kanye) decided to share her first photo to the world after so much anticipation from friends and fans.

Awww... she has her dad's chin. Nice picture but it looks like she is standing... I thought she is only a few months old.

VARIOUS RIVER PORTS TO BE CONCESSIONED IN 2014

I remember asking my dad some days ago about the maritime sector and its effects on the country's economy and the report he gave me was not quite  encouraging  but am glad the story  could be changed for the better in  no time.

Great news for all business men and women out there especially my Igbo brothers and sisters in the maritime industry.The minister of transport, Idris Umar, has said that the Onitsha, Oguta, Baro and Lokoja River Ports would be concessioned next year.

The minister said this during an interview with a Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria in London.

However, these ports will be concessioned to private operators after completion and inauguration.

What can I say?... I can already see good things happening in Nigeria.At least Lagos would become less crowded...

A 15 year old French study by French Researcher,Prof. Jean-Dennis Rouillon, reveals that bras do little or nothing to reduce back pain and with time makes the breasts to sag even more. Contrary to popular belief that says that a good bra can help support the breasts thus reducing sagging.

It was reported that breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity and that a bra is a false necessity.

According to the research, women who took off their bras for good experienced 7mm lift in their nipples after a year, breast firmness and a drastic reduction in stretch marks... Impressive right?

However, the report does not mean that women should throw their bras away or go about bra less. In fact according to the study women who have worn bras for a long time(15-20yrs) might not notice a lot of difference.Read more here

WENTWORTH MILLER "PRISON BREAK STAR" IS GAY...

This news is so heart breaking that I can barely hold back tears. Suddenly all our crushes, role models, celebrities, etc are all going down that dreaded path.

Last time, former Cosby star, Raven Symone  confirmed via twitter that she was gay. Now its this Hollywood hunk and crush of so many women around the world, Wentworth Miller, thats the latest LGBT star to speak out. Though, he has denied this so many times and even said he was looking for the right "person" to settle down with. Little did we know he was going to shock people this way.

He made the revelation in a letter declining an invitation to the film festival in Russia because of the anti-LGBT laws  passed by the Russian government.

KIM KARDASHIAN AUGMENTS BUTT WITH FAT FROM LEGS???

The rumour has always been that the 32 year-old television personality had butt implants and it seems that the rumours are just   rumours. According to a recent report, the new mother was “surgically” enhanced, just not with implants.

Back in 2011, Kim had an x-ray of her buttocks done in front of the cameras for the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians season 6, episode 3. She laid on her side in the family doctor’s office with her posterior in position.

The reality TV star decided to have the scan done to show that her buttocks had no implants in them as was speculated by several celebrity blogs. 

So the score in 2011 was Kim Kardashian 1 – Rumour Mill 0. She was able to “prove” that she had not partaken in plastic surgery, although she did not mention either the boob job or the liposuction that her ex revealed later.

A source revealed that, “Kim had lipo on her legs and the doctor moved the fat into her butt. Thats why it didn¹t show up on the X-ray.”

Hmm... I really don't know what to make of this report but its possible she had a liposuction done. What do you think?Read more here

SOFTWARE TO PREVENT "MOBILIZATION ERROR" FOR NYSC FROM 2014

The ICT department together with  the mobilization department of NYSC    developed a data entry software which can be used to enter information of prospective corp members from all corps producing institutions.

This was done as a realization that most of the errors that occur during mobilization of prospective corp members are made during the data entry stage.

Also, this new software wont be used until Batch A mobilization exercise in 2014... sounds like good news to me. Read more

ENUGU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPENS TO THE WORLD...

The newly commissioned international airport in Enugu now known as Akanu Ibiam International Airport will officially start flying international routes via international airlines like Ethiopian Airline, Arik Air, Egypt Airlines and many others pretty soon.

Residents of South East  and South South states are all excited about the report. A lot of them are happy that they can travel to any part of the world without going to Lagos or Abuja to board  international flights... major stress relief for those of us here.

The only drawback for now is the longer hours it would take to get to destinations like London, Germany, Washington, etc due to stopovers at other destinations.

The maiden flight for Ethiopian Airlines via Enugu route is on the 24th of August, 2013. Read more here

FG APPROVES N400B FOR ACADEMIC INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT- ASUU

According to SSANU the ongoing ASUU strike might be suspended dur to the fact that FG has released N400B for the infrastructural development of Nigerian Universities.

This is quite different from the N100B Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue state helped to raise from big companies and donor agencies for the growth of universities in the country which has already been shared to various universities in the country.

The money approved by FG will be spread through 4years to  elevate university education in the country to international standards.

CNN ANCHOR, ISHA SESAY GETS MARRIED

Isha Sesay, 37, is an English journalist of Sierra Leonean descent, and an anchor for CNN International. Based at the network's world headquarters in Atlanta, she hosts the news programs CNN NewsCenter and BackStory.

She made news on Sunday night by marrying fellow CNN staff Lief Coorlim, 34, in Atlanta. Her husband who was born in California but he grew up in Portland and Chicago.

The location of their honeymoon remains a secret.

INSPIRATIONAL: THE SUCCESS FORMULA

I choose to define formula as “a tested, trusted and working model, which can be used to achieve a desired result repeatedly”.

Most often, the formula or formulae used to arrive at the desired result is/are embedded in the system that produce the result. Therefore you need a system to apply the success formula. When you apply the right formula to the right system, you achieve the right result.

Here is a general formula to succeed in anything you do.

S = D (I + A + P) + B

Where:

S = Success, 

D = Desire,

I = Information, 

A = Action,

P = Perseverance, 

B = Believe (faith)

This formula can be applied in your career, business, spirituality, vision… just about anything you wish to succeed in... I can assure you.

Remember your basic mathematics?... 

Good! (Even if you don't... no shaking **lol)

From the above formula or equation, it is clear that D, individually, multiplies each of the variables enclosed by the bracket. What this means is that there will be no S (SUCCESS) without the D (DESIRE) to succeed.

•      It is when you have a burning DESIRE (D) to change your situation, condition or position in life, or move higher in your career, business, academic, spirituality, or even bring your vision or dream to reality; that you will begin to seek for proper INFORMATION (I) on how to achieve such desire.
•        It is that same DESIRE that will cause you to take appropriate ACTION (A) based on the info you have; no matter how difficult it may be.
•       Haven taken the right action, the DESIRE to succeed will also cause you to exercise patient, PERSEVERE and persist until you succeed. Like Pastor Chris would say; keep saying, don’t stop saying it… until you see result.  **You can see that all you need to attain success is a BURNING desire. NO DESIRE, NO SUCCESS.  
• Finally you need to BELIEVE. Believe in God, believe in yourself and believe in the system you are in. Look beyond the mountain before you; visualize the other side of the mountain. Have faith! Believe that you will achieve SUCCESS against all odds.

The Hong Kong property tycoon who made headlines in September when he first offered up $65 million to the man who could woo his daughter, currently in a relationship with another woman, is still hoping to convert her.

Cecil Chao recently opened the doors of his palatial home to the Financial Times and opened up about why he first offered the $65 million dowry and why he is still holding out hope for his daughter, Gigi.

“It all came about because of some gossip magazine people," Chao, who claims to have slept with 10,000 women in his lifetime, explained to the Financial Times. "They called me saying my daughter had got married in Paris. I was shocked. Gigi is still young and beautiful. She has 70% of her life to go.”

Gigi, who has dated both men and women, reportedly entered a civil partnership with her girlfriend of seven years, Sean Eav, in Paris, according to the Telegraph. But her father has denied any reports of a union.

“She can choose whatever she wants," the 76-year-old tycoon told the Financial Times. "But anyone who comes along to pursue Gigi, we will give them a moderately deluxe life. I would not force her to marry a man. But obviously I would, from my point of view, prefer her to be married and to have grandchildren.”

AUSTRALIAN ELECTION CANDIDATE MISTAKES ISLAM AS A COUNTRY

Stephanie Banister, a 27 year old candidate with the anti-immigration One Nation Party, made multiple mistakes in a TV interview.

She confused the term "haram" (forbidden) with the Koran where she was meant to say "halal" and said Jews worship Jesus Christ.

DO CLEVER WOMEN TEND NOT TO WANT KIDS???

This is a very  awkward  topic for me... who  wouldn't  want kids? Those adorable little blessings sent by God to remind us of innocence and joy.

Well apparently not everyone thinks of it this way. There seems to be a certain group of people especially  women who believe that they are too "clever" to want kids.

A lot of them feel having kids would deter them from succeeding in their chosen fields of  endeavor. They see kids as tedious jobs they cant afford to handle and obstacles to their success.

Some others just feel they don't have maternal  instincts or gene in them i.e they were never meant to have kids.

Its not my place to judge but i think its quite selfish not to want at least a kid because someone gave birth to these people who think this way. Also i must add that kids do not deter women with strong will to succeed from doing so. 

To me a real successful woman is one who excels in all spheres of her life and that includes family and kids and her ability to make them useful individuals in the society.

CHRIS BROWN'S HEALTH IN DANGER?

Today in Los Angeles, Chris Brown  allegedly  suffers seizure at Record Planet studios.

After he recently tweeted that he was retiring from the music industry, the 24 year old had a seizure and reportedly refused treatment when the medical team arrived and he refused to also follow them to the hospital.

He tweeted and then deleted on the 6th of August that he was retiring from music and that the album "X" was going to be his last and that he was tired of been famous for a mistake he made when he was 18.

A source close to him has debunked the story saying that he won't be defeated.

Personally i really feel sorry for him and all the things he is passing through. I hope his going to be just fine.

For the records i think  "FINE CHINA" is really fine.

She is only 10 years old. An extraordinary nigerian girl child with a Nigerian-American origin whose talents includes writing,  giving thought provoking speeches at international seminars, documentary film maker, etc

She was recently interviewed by Forbes Africa and this has proven to be the first of its kind. She says she wants to use her talents to sensitize the world about the good things in Africa and also to draw more attension to the issues involving the girl child in Africa.

She has interviewed great men and women of African origin including Presidents of countries. She believes that people would look at her and succeed even more than she will.

The future of this country is not so bleak after all...

This 27 year old Russian model sure has the featuters of a barbie doll... large breasts, small waist, flawless porcelain skin,trim figure, etc. One might think it isn't real but she has proved on many occassions that she isn't purposely trying to look like a doll.

She has become an internet sensation with subjects like wierd, strange, bizarre, shocker, etc. it just seems all too unreal but she is real with real life ambitions. She is married but doesnt want kids... lol, make her figure no spoil but she says she doesnt want kids because they might not look like humans... wierd right?

Outside all these distractions, she says shes an out-of-body traveler, she can travel through time and goes to other planets and interacts with aliens, she has been reincarnated so many times and was a king in her past life.

In summary, she is a spiritual teacher and guide and uses her looks to attract people to listen to her and her teachings. I guess its really working for her.

EXOTIC PET SNAKE STRANGLES TWO KIDS TO DEATH

 According to BBC news, two kids who were said to be on vacation in a friends place were found dead early monday morning and was believed to have been killed by a snake in Campbellton,New Brunswick.

The Canadian police in a statement reported that they believed the snake slipped out of its cage in the snake petshop and went into the vent leading to the apartment upstairs were the boys were and strangled them to death. Though the snake has being caught and kept securely in its cage and no charges has been laid for now.

So sad...

BREAKING NEWS: LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR LOSES DAD

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola just lost his father Pa Ademola Fashola today after a protracted illness that has been on and of for over a year now. He was 75 years old. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Hmm... so this is how Beverly has decided to ruin the name of this country and her reputation at stake as she damns all consequences by sucuumbing to the pressure of having sexual intercourse with her boyfriend Angelo from South Africa.

I am yet to understand the type of message this Big Brother Show is trying to  pass across to its numerous viewers with many of them being youths.

Should we fold our arms and watch our generation loose themselves to this sort of pressure?  Its becoming increasingly too difficult to comprehend this I must say.

Here is the world's most tallest slum. Its an unfinished 45 storey building in Venezuela that was abandoned in the early 90's and since then squatters have been residing there... busy place for sure. Can it be compared with any slum you know of ?
